Welcome to 9Twenty-Seven.
My name is Daniel Sparks, and I’m really thrilled that you are here. I know you’re busy, so I want you to know that I am committed to being a good steward of your time. In fact, I’m launching this blog because I believe that I see an urgent need in our society for a place where men of God can go to find encouragement to lead a life of discipline for the sake of the gospel. Isn’t that why we are here? The gospel?
Around the world, real people are persecuted and killed for professing the name of Christ. They choose to die to themselves (literally) when faced with the alternative of renouncing their faith. Like our Savior, they’re hungry, homeless, tortured and broken, yet they stand firm.
Meanwhile in the US, many of us are dying of diseases that are a direct result of overindulgence and neglect stemming from questionable self-discipline practices. Men, women and children are literally starving while we eat ourselves to death. In light of these things, can we continue to be ruled by our guts when scripture calls us to walk a powerfully disciplined path? Perhaps it’s time to reevaluate. That’s what I hope to accomplish here.
Every Monday, I’ll post discussion primers that I believe will be thought-provoking in hopes that we may communally engage in considering the discipline challenges we face. Looking at things communally gives us the benefit of multiple perspectives that are provided by our unique faith experiences. Each of us gets to witness God through different circumstances as He works through our lives, and I believe that it is through godly community that His face is more clearly perceived as we piece together His word and our corresponding experiences into a glorious mosaic.
It’s the community of believers my Bama-born pastor refers to as the “Y’all”–or the plural “you” so often addressed in scripture. I believe that we were made to run this race together. Will you run with me?
You are here right now, so that makes me think that you are interested in living a life marked by self-control and faithfulness to our precious Lord Jesus Christ and desire to hear Him say “Well done!” Me, too.
So, while you are here, please check out my About page where I explain myself further. Please let me know what you think! I can’t wait to hear your comments. We cannot build a community without your thoughts, too. In the meantime, brother, know that I’m praying for you. Please pray for me as well! May God richly bless our efforts as we feel our way toward Him.
